My first time studying chemistry
By Sean
School never came easy to me. In fact I was a down right terrible student with all the so called learning disabilities and what have you. I did not purchase this book for school but rather in an attempt to try and learn about chemistry on my own. I have always been into sports, exercise, nutrition ect..And the more I got into it the more exercise science started to call me. I figured rather then purchase a exercise physiology book let me start with chemistry so I can try and lay a strong foundation. I was intimidated by this book because it had been a long time since I did any studying like this. I thought I would give it a shot but eventually it would get to be to far over my head and I would have to quit. But after the first chapter something happened that I did not anticipate. It quickly changed from being about wanting to learn exercise science to simply falling in love with chemistry. I was hooked! The questions at the end of the chapters have played a big part in me grasping the information in the chapters. No way I could just read this stuff and absorb it. The help guides regarding math and how to use a scientific calculator in the back of the book were extremely helpful. The tables in the back of the book were extremely helpful as well. I felt the information is explained very well and every few chapters they have a "putting it all together" in which they test you on the last few chapters which just further drills the information into your head. I acually still have a couple chapters left to go and I am sad that its almost over but I have more texts waiting for me at the moment I finish and I cannot wait! For somebody with zero knowledge of chemistry, terrible at math to say the least this book has been great at helping me begin to lay a foundation in chemistry/biochemistry. It will always have a special place in my heart as it took somebody with zero confidence in their ability to grasp something like this and turned me into somebody with a tremendous passion for chemistry and confident that I can grasp this stuff.:)

This book is not easy to understand or the least bit interesting. Unfortunately, colleges do not allow you to pick the text.

I had to take the course twice at two different colleges. Introductory Chemistry by Cracolice is a much better book. It is more logical, funner, more intelligent, and easier to understand for those who actually wish to learn something. This one is just an excuse of a textbook. Very general, and boring.
