Not what I expected, but a good read

I learned more about Melvin Child's life than Tyler's, which was slightly disappointing b/c it was unexpected. However b/c Child's is a good writer, he kept my attn. I was curious in seeing how it would end. I didn't care for the animosity Child's seemed to possess, but if all that's written is true, he had a right. Whether or not Tyler's actions were properly written, I'm still a big fan of his great talent! It's a good read, but if you're looking to read about Tyler Perry, wait for him to put out his own book, cuz this book is about Melvin Childs & how he aided in Tyler's success.

It didn't keep my attention

I started reading on the 8th didnt finish til the 18th, It did not keep my attention as I thought it would. It was interesting how we start businesses without knowing all the ins and outs, and even in the end of the book Mr Childs still didnt know all he needed to know.....still trusting people in an industry where people cant be trusted. Of course the partnership ending was a complete set-up I saw it coming before I got to the last three chapters.....I knew when Arthur told you Tyler sucked "he was going to steal him"....I hope you found your closure.

Title is Deceptive

I think the title of the book is deceptive. It took me until chapter 12 to realize that this book wasn't really about Tyler Perry like I thought, but about how Melvin Childs made him who he is. This book talked about nothing other than the fact that Mr. Childs basically sacrificed his life to help Tyler get his career going. He painted Tyler to be an arrogant, selfish and uncaring person who used him to get to the top. The book didn't really discuss Tyler's rise in my opinion. Clearly he is bitter and jealous of Tyler Perry and this book gave him the outlet to vent. I would not recommend the book to anyone. Mr. Childs is willing to make money off of using Tyler Perry's name in the title of this book even though he is not on speaking terms with him. Needless to say, I was disappointed in the content of this book.

Excellent Read!

If you are a follower of Renee Bernard in general and of her Jaded Series in particular, then you will not want to miss the next Jaded book, Obsession Wears Opals. With a calm and quiet professor-style demeanor, Darius Thorne is the next Jaded gentleman to meet his match. The storyline includes a damsel in serious trouble and a seemingly impossible situation. The secondary characters provide great dialog and humor while Darius and `Helen' forge ahead to outwit the evil enemy - - an abusive husband, no less - - in their midst. As Darius plots to save her, Helen makes a remarkable recovery - - physically, emotionally and mentally. Games of chess and a waltz forge an unbreakable bond between the two. I did not see the twist coming at the end, even though the sadistic husband did not receive an ending more befitting his character. Also, another clue surfaces concerning the Jaded's unseen predator from India. Obsession Wears Opals is another fantastic story by a most talented author.

This is the first book by Renee Bernard that I've read. I really liked the feel and emotional charged characters of the book. The story begins when Darius Thorne finds a woman unconscious on his property and promptly takes her into his home. She has been beaten and is so cold, he's afraid she might perish. Living in Edinburgh, Darius is a scholar as well as a member of a circle of gentlemen known as the Jaded. He notices that his guest is very beautiful and very English. She also has a wedding band on her finger. The only conclusion is she belongs to someone else. Lady Isobel Netherton has escaped her abusive husband. But under the protection of Darius she finds an unexpected desire for the handsome man. She also discovers that she is tired of being a pawn She wants to find out the secrets of her husband's sexual nature and demand a divorce. Isobel and Darius begin their journey together in friendship and find a love worth more that any jewel.

"I don't care if your parents were pig farmers, you prat of a man!"

Once, a few years ago, I read a Renee Bernard HR, didn't think much of it and skipped her books from then on. Until now, that is. In a month sadly lacking much in the way of good HRs until Jan. 29, when Madeline Hunter, Meredith Duran and Karen Ranney will be releasing new ones, I picked up this Bernard HR at the library just because. To my surprise, I found that I had been missing out on a very good writer.

This is a beautifully-told love story. Darius is the most appealing beta male I've ever met in books. He's utterly sweet, charming, kind, noble, intelligent and even handsome. Oh, heck, I think I'm in love. And his love interest is a young woman quite worthy of him.

Darius rescues and hides away Isabel Netherton, an upper-class married woman running away from a horrendously abusive husband. Of course they fall in love, but it's one of those warm, fuzzy, and absolutely romantic falls. There are some roadblocks on the way to happiness: The existing husband, of course, and also the fact that lower-class Darius doesn't feel worthy of Isabel.

I wasn't so fond of the parts of the story involving the Jaded, Darius' group of friends who were all prisoners together some years ago in India and now are united by friendship, jewels and a common enemy. Possibly that part didn't appeal to me because I hadn't read the previous stories in this Jaded series, and there have been 4 before this one.

But as a stand-alone romance this is first rate and I loved the H and h.

Intellectual fodder for a M/F reader; Perhaps excellent for Femdom fans

There is no "Star" ranking for I learned a lot from a book, nor for 'it pushed my boundaries'. I've given it five stars for those two reasons. If I hadn't been asked to review it prior to publication, I never would have downloaded it, and if I did, I wouldn't have made it past the first couple of pages. Here's why, and why I gave it 5 stars:

I'm a M/F oriented reader. While I intellectually get that some men and women enjoy Femdom relationships, from sex only to 24/7 TPE (total power exchange), I wouldn't want to be in such a relationship. I can read about serious pain inflicted on a sub (f) without freaking out, as long as it has a point in the story, the story is well written and free of errors, and I care about one or more of the characters or learn something. Is it logical that, up to now, I've freaked out about serious pain inflicted on a sub (m)? No and yes. It freaks me out because it is much easier to imagine that it is my cock, my balls, my need to come, my humiliation, if the recipient is male. No, because I believe that men and women should have the same opportunities as each other, limited only by biological processes and not cultural ones.

Slave to Surrender is a well written short story, focusing on the erotic part of this wife and husband's 24/7 femdom relationship. It mentioned what restrictions and play they'd found and focuses on how the M wants to submit more to his wife.

I give it five stars because it made me think, rather than dwell in imaginary or real emotions.

The Title Says it All

Monica and Matthew are a successful married couple who enjoy a loving d/s relationship in private. Matthew enjoys his submissive role and wants to expand it, but is afraid of how it will affect other aspects of his life like work and their vanilla friends. I am typically attracted to male domination/female submission erotica but this book caught my eye, and once I began reading I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is well written with interesting dialogue. I particularly enjoyed the author's depiction of the the d/s relationship in the context of a loving wife and husband. The story is not too tame, nor is it too extreme, and the sex is hot and varied. The element of hypnotism also allowed the author to explore some very interesting possibilities. A very good read!

Not my usually read

I usually don't go for femdom stories, they just really aren't my thing, but I couldn't help wanting to read this knowing that there were elements of erotic hypnosis. I've heard of this but have never read anything with that in it so I was very curious.

I ended up really enjoying this story! The lengths that Matthew goes to in order to please his Mistress is so sweet and commendable. I really enjoyed the entire erotic hypnosis thing and found it very interesting to hear Matt's inner thoughts of how he is feeling as his Mistress takes him deeper and deeper under her command. I also thoroughly enjoyed the party they go to so that she can show off his new found "skills". I thought it was very well done, extremely erotic, and unlike anything else I've read before. I originally gave this 3 stars just due to it not being my normal kind of erotica story, but that really seemed unfair as I was typing up this review. The story and writing are well done and kept me interested and entertained. I would recommend this author and would also recommend this read to anyone who enjoys femdom stories.
