A Must-Have Book

The much anticipated release of Leather, Life and The Pursuit of Happiness by Steve Lenius will undoubtedly be given the attention, praise, and kudos it deserves. For the past 15 years, Steve has written over 300 Leather Life articles for the Minneapolis, MN based publication Lavender. Leather, Life and The Pursuit of Happiness contains 112 Leather Life columns selected from fifteen years' worth of writings that originally appeared in Lavender and elsewhere that together, form a complete picture of the entire history of as well as contemporary aspects of the Leather SMBD Fetish Community. Included topics range from history, relationships, club life, political life, sashes, spiritual aspects, "Holiday" life, as well as many others. I would be hard pressed to find an facet of the lifestyle that is not covered within these pages and that, is no small feat!

Lavender has been fortunate indeed to have an author of such intelligence, integrity, and wit on its team as champion for the Leather Community. Over the years, Steve has become well known nationally and internationally as an expert in all facets of the Leather, Fetish, and BDMS lifestyle, and his spotless reputation is well deserved.

I find this book to be good for the collective Community as it is inclusive, draws us together, and urges us to work together for our common advancement in understanding, awareness, and acceptance. This in its truest form, is "consciousness raising through education" in its purest form.

It is my firm belief that this book, Life, Leather, and the Pursuit of Happiness, will become the forth cornerstone resource that establishes a firm foundation of the Leather Lifestyle genre. Lenius joins the likes of Guy Baldwin (Ties That Bind), and Joseph Bean (Leathersex and Leathersex Q&A) as a voice to be heard - as a voice speaking both to the Leather SMBD Fetish Community, and for that community to other communities.

A entertaining & informative must read

I attended the 2010 Twin Cities Pridefest recently. While I was there I met the author of this book Steve Lenius. I found him quite charming & well spoken, which encouraged me to take a further look at his book.
I decided to purchase a copy( and had it autographed as well). I promised Steve I would leave a review here, good or bad, so here is my review.
I would happily recommend this book. It was highly entertaining, I laughed outloud at more then a few spots. It was also quite informative. As someone quite new to the leather Scene I found many things I didn't know yet. I also found it very welcoming to those, like myself, who are still learning the ropes and not always fully sure if they are doing/saying the right things for the situation.
So for those new to the community, it's a great starter read. For those who are well acquainted with the community it's a good laugh and fond rememberances of good times. Whichever side of the community you're on, it's well worth the cost. Job well done, Steve - I look forward to your next book!

If anyone has ever lived or wondered what life is like in the projects, this book is one example of that life. Imaginative, creative, and expressionary...The vivid display of life for Chaka in this novel captures the reader to become drawn to the next page. Excellent novel for a first time author and looking forward to the prequel and subsequent works.

Olson identifies four queerness arguments, concerning supervenience, knowledge, motivation, and irreducible normativity, and goes on to establish that while the first three are not compelling, the fourth has considerable force, especially when combined with debunking explanations of why we tend to believe that there are moral properties and facts when in fact there are none. One conclusion of Part II is that a plausible error theory takes the form of an error theory about irreducible normativity. In Part III (Defence), Olson considers challenges according to which that kind of error theory has problematic ramifications regarding hypothetical reasons, epistemic reasons, and deliberation. He ends his discussion with a consideration of the implications of moral error theory for ordinary moral thought and talk, and for normative theorizing.

About the Author

Jonas Olson is Reader in Practical Philosophy at Stockholm University. He received his PhD from Uppsala University in 2005. In 2005-2008 he was a Fellow at Brasenose College and Departmental Lecturer in Moral Philosophy at the University of Oxford. He has held visiting positions at the University of Otago, CEPPA (Centre for Ethics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs) at the University of St Andrews, and at Universite de Montreal. Olson works mainly in metaethics, value theory, and history of moral philosophy. He is co-editor with Iwao Hirose of The Oxford Handbook of Value Theory (OUP USA, forthcoming) and he has published several articles in peer-reviewed collections and journals, such as such as Australasian Journal of Philosophy, Ethical Theory and Moral Practice, Hume Studies, Mind, Oxford Studies in Metaethics, Philosophical Quarterly, Philosophy and Phenomenological esearch, Ratio, and Utilitas.
