Dr. Kathleen Jonson was an educator for forty years until her retirement in 2009. She has conducted numerous workshops and was professor of education and coordinator in the School of Education at the University of San Francisco. She lives in Seattle, Washington.

This book contains recommendations, best practices and procedural models that really help me look at the EPA in the context of quality control and management. i recommend this book to plant managers, repair center managers who would like to get an understanding of the context of ESD program management. The book provides information on audits checklist, ESD standards implementation, ESD layout, ESD cost justification, etc.

The Holman Ultrathin NKJV Reference Bible almost got it perfect. My only gripe is that it is a ...

*** Update 08/21/13*** Ok, I have to add some info here. You can still read my original review below, but as I've been using this Bible I have been able to see some things I originally missed. The first thing is that the paper is much better than I expressed in my original post below. It is pretty smooth in texture and the ink is sharply printed on it offering good contrast and limited ghosting. The second thing is that the cover is much softer leather than perhaps I explained. If it wasn't on card paper and lined inside with vinyl it would be floppy. It is also pretty thick leather. I doubt it will be easily hurt. Last, I'd like to note that Holman as of yet has not responded to my questions about the binding. I can observe that the maps in the back and the presentation pages in the front are sewn into the Bible, but that doesn't mean the Bible itself has a sewn binding. I still can't see any dimples on the inside that would indicate stitching and the binding doesn't bend like a sewn binding. I'm going to wait a bit longer before I damage the Bible to find out if it is in fact sewn. I really hope it is sewn. Even if it isn't, this is a great Bible. I love the size and weight. It is a good all around thinline reference Bible. If it turns out to be a sewn binding, I would compare it to the $35 Lockman Foundation NASB.

Review of the Holman NKJV Ultrathin Reference Bible in Brown Genuine Cowhide.
The Holman Ultrathin NKJV Reference Bible almost got it perfect. My only gripe is that it is a glued binding. The advertisement on Christianbook.com says it is a sewn binding http://www.christianbook.com/nkjv-ultrathin-reference-brown-genuine-cowhide/9781433615030/pd/615030?event=ESRCG and reviews on other sites have also said it is a sewn binding, but I don't believe it is. I took a close look at it and it looks and lays like a glued binding. I would hate to have to cut such a nice Bible up to see if it is truly sewn or not so I think I will first e-mail Holman and ask them. If they say it is sewn, I'll probably have to cut this Bible up to see. They might be paying for it to be sewn in Korea, but who knows if it is getting done. Perhaps there is a mix up over at Christianbook.com?

Having that said let's take a look at what makes it a good buy. First off, I like the New King James Version (NKJV) it is a good translation. It is easy to read and it is accurate. It has been around for quite a while now and I am pretty familiar with it. My favorite is the NASB, but the NKJV comes in fourth for me. NASB, ESV, KJV, and NKJV. I don't think I'd bother with any other translations. Too many agenda driven ones out there now.

The Bible came in a cardboard box, cushioned with paper. The Bible was inside a retail box that would be good to store the Bible in as it is pretty sturdy.
The Bible itself was wrapped inside two sleeves of thick, brown, paper. This was to protect the cowhide cover.
I liked the cover. It was genuine cowhide and pretty thick. It was somewhat tacky in texture making it easy to hold on to. It is lined with what looks like vinyl glued to the inside which is pretty typical of Bible in this price range. The Bible measures about nine inches by six inches by an inch.
The spine of the Bible has raised hubs on the back that appear to just be decorative. Just because there are hubs doesn't mean it is a sewn binding. I do like the look and feel of it.
There is one brown ribbon marker and the page edges are gold colored as well as the spine. I don't know if it is real gold leaf or not. For the price I'm guessing it isn't.
The font is 8 point. It is clearly printed and easy to read. The words of Christ are in red. The Bible is printed in Korea.

The Bible is printed in a double column format with center column references. There are also book introductions.
There is a sixty six page concordance and eight color maps. The paper that the maps are on aren't as glossy as some and might hold up better because of it.
The paper is good quality.

Satisfactory, but not superior

This edition of the NKJV published by Holman will please many users, depending on which features are most important to them. The leather seems to be of superior quality, the pages also seem to be of excellent quality, and the typeface is clear. In retrospect, however, I wish I had ordered a Bible in giant print instead of just large print. The print does not seem especially large. A document typed on my computer in the font Times New Roman at 12 points (considered average size) is larger than the type in this Bible. I also would have liked a Bible with wider margins. This is a red-letter edition (which does not matter greatly to me) and has center column references. There are also many headings scattered throughout the text. I would have been just as happy if they had been omitted.

In my mind, I am comparing this Bible to the Bible I have most enjoyed using--the Inductive Study Bible put out by Precept Ministries. It has almost no headings (so your interpretations are unswayed by the ideas of others), and the margins are wide. The study helps of that edition are also truly helpful. The problem? The Inductive Study Bible is not published in the NKJV, and this time I needed a new Bible in the NKJV. Two other Bibles I have in the NKJV were published by Thomas Nelson and both are falling apart. Hopefully this edition put out by Holman will last much longer.

This is the nicest Bible I've ever owned. Sewed binding, thick yet supple binding, and all the perks that make studying easier. I spend time in it daily and don't like having to put it down.

About the Author

Donita D’Amico, MEd, RN
Donita D’Amico, a diploma nursing school graduate, earned her baccalaureate degree in Nursing from William Paterson College. She earned a master’s degree in Nursing Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, with a specialization in Adult Health. Ms. D’Amico has been a faculty member at William Paterson University for more than 30 years. Her teaching responsibilities include physical assessment, medical-surgical nursing, nursing theory, and fundamentals in the classroom, skills laboratory, and clinical settings.

Ms. D’Amico coauthored several textbooks, including Health Assessment in Nursing and its companion clinical handbook by Sims, D’Amico, Stiesmeyer, and Webster; as well as Comprehensive Health Assessment: A Student Workbook and Modules for Medication Administration with Dr. Colleen Barbarito.

Ms. D’Amico is active in the community. Within the university, she is a charter member of the Iota Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. She also serves as a consultant and contributor to local organizations.

Colleen Barbarito, EdD, RN
Colleen Barbarito received a nursing diploma from Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduated with a baccalaureate degree from William Paterson College, and earned a master’s degree from Seton Hall University, all in New Jersey. She received her Doctor of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to a position in education, Dr. Barbarito’s clinical experiences included medical-surgical, critical care, and emergency nursing. Dr. Barbarito has been a faculty member at William Paterson University since 1984, where she has taught Physical Assessment and a variety of clinical laboratory courses for undergraduate nursing students and curriculum development at the graduate level.

Dr. Barbarito coauthored two books with Donita D’Amico–Modules for Medication Administration and Comprehensive Health Assessment: A Student Workbook. She published articles on anaphylaxis in American Journal of Nursing and Coping with Allergies and Asthma. Her research includes physical assessment and collaboration on revising a physical assessment project with results published as a brief in Nurse Educator. As a faculty member, Dr. Barbarito participated in committees to explore curricular change and to develop multimedia-learning modules for critical thinking.

Dr. Barbarito is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the National League for Nursing.

I really liked the way that the book is organized

This was a very helpful book for assessments. It tells you exactly what to do and is a very visual book. There are many pictures to help with the correct placements for the assessments and it even tells you which findings are normal and which are not. I really liked the way that the book is organized. Complete system assessments make up a chapter such as " cardiac, gastrointestinal..ect" the book even includes questions as the end of the chapters to help evolve your critical thinking. I needed this book for class but I am keeping it even after ad a reference to look back on.

Great book for class!

This was a required book for one of my nursing classes and I enjoyed reading it. It is clearly written, and I had no issues understanding the material. Amazon is a great resource for getting your books at a reasonable price. It was delivered quickly and packaged securely.

My nursing lab

BEWARE! I purchased my book new from amazon and it arrived in perfect condition shrink wrapped with access code. However when I tried to use the code, it would not allow me to register the book. When I contacted Pearson about why it would not work, they told me they do not guarantee any access codes purchased from third parties. (only from your bookstore or through their website.) therefore i ended up buying a new book for an access code I cannot use. I HATE PEARSON BOOKS. There customer service is awful and their products are not guaranteed. Good luck if you have to utilize the access code.
