Very Advanced book not for starters

This book was used by me as an introduction to fluid mechanics. It is not a good book to be used by someone starting fluid mechanics, but it is a very advanced book with often very complicated mathematics, probably more for advanced courses rather than introductory courses in civil engineering. Navier Stokes equations are used often in the book and it does present it in a very good way together with dimensional analysis. I think this is the only plus for this book.

BRUCE H. HEIMARK is a retired Air Force intelligence officer and a Master Navigator./e A Vietnam veteran, Heimark was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for outstanding achievement while on a strategic reconnaissance mission over southeast Asia on June 28, 1973. He is a part-time instructor for local colleges and universities in history and Norwegian in Omaha, Nebraska. Heimark is an Honorary Admiral in the Nebraska Navy and the El Paso, Texas, Navy.

Leader of operation RYPE - OGs leader from US, Bill Colby double-crossed?

Chapter 15, "The Tragic Delivery of the RYPE Mission", page 70, quote; "In January 1945, the advanced party traveled by air from Scotland to the target area. On board were Lt. Tom Sather, T/Sgt. Borge Langeland, S/Sgt. Arne Listeid, and a Norwegian liaisson officer with the code name Hoel (Herbert Helgesen from Trondheim). ....... The advance party was fortunate it did not drop.....the Germans must have been aware of Operation RYPE. A large German ski party was dispatched from Steinkjer to Gauptjernet that night....."unquote.

The Norwegian Liaisson officer Herbert Helgesen was one of the leaders of Milorg in mid Norway with direct contact to Milorgs top man Jens Chr. Hauge. Hauge was a key architect and backplayer for the left wing coup in Norway in May 1945. Hauge had contact with Moscow as well as the Germans during wartime.

Fake-Satanic DIY-Diabolism...

This book is written by (yet another) self-styled "Satanic Philosopher", self-ordained "Satanist" and self-opinionated "Satanic expert". It is yet another manifestation of the phenomenon of Fake-Satanism, which is basically a genre of self-published text-books, manuals and tracts - each one so unambiguously, arrogantly and blatantly ripping-off the great, original writings of Anton LaVey that it makes one seriously wonder if Copyright Law still exists. The online, self-publishing avenue means that just about any giftless goombah can now call himself a "Satanist", publish his own "Diabolical Manifesto" and then sit back and bask in ego-fuelled self-delusion.

According to the blurb, the author of "The Satanic Testament", Alexandrue Lucifer Ravensloft LeGivorden - (and if that's his real name then I'll eat my inverted crucifix) - is "an ordained Reverend in the Satanic religion". In careful consideration of the 1001 different sects, orders, covens and other truly pathetic collectives that each claim to be a "Satanic Group" nowadays, this statement could mean just about anything. One thing is absolutely certain: "Lucifer" ain't no Satanist in the authentic, LaVeyan sense, and the idea that any character of his ilk could ever be a Registered Member - let alone a Reverend - in the Church of Satan is about as likely as my catching veneral disease from a Martian. We are also told that "Lucifer" used to be "a Wiccan High Priest" before deciding to "become" a Satanist. Well, nobody decides to become a Satanist. Besides which (or should that be 'Witch'?) anybody who would actually "defect" from Wicca to Satanism is advertising the fact that they know everything about Wicca but nothing about Satanism.

This hotchpotch of unoriginal, extremely derivative scribblings actually begins with an (unintentionally) informative section called: "The Creeds Of Satanism", where "Lucifer" compares several different lists of doctrinal statements, written by the heads of several different Satanic Groups. The idea of this is to illustrate the alleged "differences in doctrinal thought" to the reader, which are falsely assumed to exist "within Satanism". Despite the notion that there exist many "various forms" of Satanism being complete and utter balderdash, this section displays the extent to which Anton LaVey's "Nine Satanic Statements" have been mercilessly cut, copied, pasted, plundered and appropriated by sub-moronic LaVey copyists, emulators and wannabes.

After this, the book goes emphatically and inexorably downhill: "Lucifer" has an obsession about the existence of what he repeatedly refers to as "The Satanic Community": something that - in reality - does not exist. By definition, a Satanist is an Outsider; an Exile; an Individualist. The fact that people feel the incessant need to huddle together (like the herd animals they are) is one of the most repugnant, repellant aspects of human nature to a genuine Satanist. The completely oxymoronic term "Satanic Community" is diametrically opposed to the force of Independence, Individuation and Individualism that lies at the very heart of the concept of Satan. Innumerable, dysfunctional, angry assembly-line "dress-in-black Diabolists" and "professional rebels" who flock to the 1001 online Goth/Black Metal chat-rooms and "Satan Fan-Clubs" in existence nowadays is NOT a "Satanic Community": it is a virtual delusion that panders to the herd instinct that draws collectivist, weak and frightened people together, and which has arbitrarily and amusingly been dubbed "The Satanic Community" in an infantile attempt to give the knuckle-scrapers involved a sense of "belonging". It is a meaningless name which has been given to an idealistic, phantom concept: a haven for the confused, the stupid and the weak.

Read on, and we have guidelines for the ritual sacrifice of an animal as a part of an alleged Satanic Ceremony. Clearly "Lucifer" has about as much in-depth knowledge of genuine Satanism as does a hobo about making millions of dollars. The actual view of real, bona fide Satanists towards hurting, torturing or harming animals in any way - let alone sacrificing them in a ritual - is that the perpetrators of such vile, mindless, sub-moronic acts should have dealt out to them precisely what they have inflicted upon the animal.

The rest of this offering is a clear Anton LaVey rip-off: right up to the "Rituals of Initiation & Ordainment" appendices, the source for this allegedly being "The Grotto Masters Handbook", written by... (you guessed it!): "Anon". Try LaVey's "Satanic Rituals" for the real source of the "inspiration". After repeatedly criticising, denouncing and accusing the Original & Genuine throughout his book, "Lucifer" nevertheless sees fit here to arrogantly reproduce the Church of Satan's very own, fully copyrighted Symbol of Baphomet.

The 21st Century's sad, talentless breed of self-styled, self-published Fake Satanists (in which "Lucifer" has here unambiguously declared himself a major player), stubbornly insist that their writings are "invaluable contributions" to what they claim is a Satanism of different strands, takes, philosophies and other Left-Hand Path "traditions" that simply DO NOT exist - while each ripping-off Anton LaVey up to the hilt to make a buck and jerking-off at the sight of their "groundbreaking Satanic works" appearing in (self-published) print. The Unholy Truth is that there are NO 57 varieties, branches or denominations of Satanism: There is only the One, Original and Genuine codification of Satanism as formulated by Anton Szandor LaVey and enshrined in the Church of Satan. The 57 varieties are of 3rd rate emulators, imitators, copyists, con-artists, rip-off merchants and outright Walter Mitty Fake-Satanists. This is not an extreme, uncompromising or absolutist viewpoint; nor is it unrealistic or idealistic: It is a long-established, well recognized, solid and irrefutable fact.

very enlightening

While not a satanist myself, I like to learn about other religions, and Satanism was one of them. what I've found is that Satanism is a very unorganized religion, with no one having a solid idea of what all of them should stand for, while the credo is ultimately that ones self is the ultimate god. the satanic testament gives a very well thought out entrance to the religion itself. It gives the reader a varied amount of information and lets them take from it what they will.

Though disagreeing with the author on several points, I found a lot of what he said not only accurate but struck quite a cord with me in my experience of Satanism over the past 15yrs. Should be required reading for every loving parent.

I have read several of Tagore's works but nothing has ever touched me as deeply as the lines in these poems about children and their loves. The one on the death of a child is my favorite. I lost my own child with leukemia several years ago and thought the tears had all dried up but these touching words of this great poetic master found some still tender areas. If these poems are so very beautiful in their English translations, I can only guess what they must sound like in the original rhythmic and lyrical Bengali language. Thank you for allowing me to review and recommend this book

My mom read some of these poems to me as a child. When she was dying, I read them to her. She smiled when almost nothing made her smile. And then later in the process, they calmed her when nearly nothing else could calm her. These poems seem almost sacred to me.

Tagore needs to be emphasized, not Deepak Chopra

I am a lifelong devotee of Rabindranath Tagore (RNT), of whom I tell my children, "Human evolution reached its perfection when it created Tagore- the greatest human being ever to have lived on this earth." I stand behind this assertion.

With my Bengali background, indeed, I am fortunate to have been naturally exposed to the priceless life and works of Tagore. As Abby from LA writes- it is absolutely true that Tagore's Bengali creations surpass by far what is carried over to English. Sitting by Tagore's feet, I frequently regret that the entire world does not have access to the poems, songs, essays, drama and all other literary creations he left behind in Bengali.

The issue I have with this edition of The Crescent Moon (which RNT dedicated to Sturge Moore, Britain's poet-laureate nominee in RNT's time) is that on the cover, the name of Deepak Chopra, who has compiled this collection, is displayed more prominently than that of RNT himself. Sadly, this smacks of self-promotion, a common phenomenon in this age of crass commercialism and materialism, something RNT (similar to Thoreau in this country) spoke out stridently against throughout his life. Thus I justify the 4 stars.

As the correspondent from Mexico correctly observes, any seeker expecting to discover Tagore in the original, needs to find earlier, more pristine editions of the book (and others by RNT). I assume that Abby's Mom must have seen/felt and read Tagore from the original, and not from an edited product.

About the Author

Lyza Danger Gardner (@lyzadanger) is a dev. She has built, broken and hacked web things since 1996. Curiously, Lyza was actually born and raised in Portland, Ore., the town where everyone wants to be but no one seems to be from.

Lyza started college early and cobbled together a motley education: a BA in Arts and Letters from Portland State University, followed by a master’s program in computer science at the University of Birmingham (UK).

Lyza has written a lot of web applications (server-side devs, represent!), defeated wily content management systems, optimized mobile web sites, pounded on various APIs, and worried a lot about databases. Fascinated by the way mobile technology has changed things, she now spends a lot of time thinking about the future of the web, mobile and otherwise.

Since co-founding Cloud Four, a Portland-based mobile web agency, in 2007, Lyza has voyaged further into the deep, untrammeled reaches of Device Land, exploring the foibles and chaos of mobile browsers and the mobile web. She has an odd set of anachronistic hobbies and it has been said she takes a fair number of photographs. She owns a four-letter .com domain. Something for Everyone!

I was surprised and delighted with just how much this book covers. There is something for everyone in this book as it discusses mobile web development from quite a few angles: responsive web design, jQuery Mobile, device detection and databases, developing hybrid web apps using PhoneGap Build, etc. Along the way it is going to teach you various HTML5 Programming features like LocalStorage, Geolocation, and Offline Web Apps. And, of course, in the responsive web design chapters you get a big dose of web design topics like fluid layouts, CSS3 Media Queries, etc. If that wasn't enough, you also get introduced to quite a few resources and development techniques to help you develop mobile web applications.

If you are just diving into mobile web development and want a well-rounded education on the topic, Head First Mobile Web is a great first book!

Practical & Useful Book on Mobile Web Techniques

When talking "mobile" apps seem to get all of the attention but a mobile-optimized website is a necessity for many businesses. Any company that relies on email or social media to help spread the word about their offerings (think "web links") really should make sure their website is easily viewable on a phone. Jason and Lyza do a fantastic job of taking a "new to mobile" developer through the various options that are available for making a website mobile-optimized (their are many!).

The book includes hands-on lessons with each chapter (including code you can download) and useful "case studies" to make it clear how each technique should be used. By covering the latest trends like Responsive Web Design and HTML5 APIs and some old school techniques like device detection and CSS-MP "Head First Mobile Web" makes a great resource for anyone looking to get into mobile web development or, like myself, looking to brush up on their skills.

What I think I appreciate most about the book, beyond the depth & practicality of the information, is Jason's and Lyza's frankness in the pros and cons of each solution and being clear how each can be useful. I was most struck by this in the WURFL section. A lot of time is spent talking device detection (one of my favorite mobile techniques) but they're very clear about some of the licensing downsides to the product. They don't just gloss over that very important issue.

It's a surprisingly quick read considering the thickness of the book. That's probably because, rather than being big blocks of text talking theory, it has a lot of examples, tips & tricks and uses a great conversational tone. This book really is designed to be, above all, practical and easy to learn from and it is. If you're at the start of a project and want to know what is available to you with mobile web or using web technologies (they also cover PhoneGap for making HTML-based apps) you should really pick this one up.

An excellent introduction for the complete newbie!

I've read a few "Head First" books now and come to the conclusion that their use is inversely proportional to how much you already know about the topic and this book is no exception to that rule of thumb. If you're a neophyte mobile web developer then you will come away with a good overview of how to work; if you're a seasoned mobile web developer looking for a reference book you'll probably come away frustrated. The book's information is presented as a set of increasingly complex worked examples; excellent as a functional learning process but not so hot if you are looking for an all in one manual. That proviso aside this is an excellent introduction to developing for the mobile web. The book covers design processes (e.g. mobile first responsive web design), techniques (e.g. building hybrid web apps) and tools (e.g. jQuery mobile). Now as Head First Mobile Web doesn't come in an inconveniently large suitcase the coverage of these is necessarily quite shallow but to give you a springboard into the world of mobile web development it's the best book I've seen. Sure there are areas you will need to brush up on later such as HTML5, a smattering of CSS and perhaps most importantly javascript but you don't need to be all that well versed in any of these to get the full benefit out of the book. What you will need to do is to treat this as a doing book rather than a straight reading one. Get your hands metaphorically dirty and work through the examples and you will get vastly more out of the book than if you just sit down and read it.

I was really impressed by Head First Mobile Web and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in getting a grounding in the increasingly important mobile web development arena.

A Romance Junkie

Jake walked into his corporate apartment and found Marin there wearing a bath towel. She explained that she's the younger sister of his PA and that she's there because she lost her job. So he offers her some money to go to a party with him. Marin's sister has warned her about Jake and his playboy ways so she's a little scared but takes the money and the date. This story was pretty good and I did enjoy it. I like the way Jake didn't give up in the end and was not going to leave no matter what she said. I recommend it highly.

Could've been an AMAZING story...could've

This book was both a fun and a sweet one to read. Our heroine is quick witted, mature, and full of true class. Our hero, while a playboy, is honest, steadfast, honorable, and even kind. This book did not drag on nor did it disappoint. As a side note, I did feel strangely about our heroine being a mere twenty years of age.

Unfortunately, no matter my appreciation for this book, I had to give this book 3/5 stars because it felt as if it was missing half the book because our author only wrote from the heroine's perspective. It was very disappointing because her writing for our heroine was spectacular. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this authors work and hoping that there is a more well-rounded perspective within it.

Now to explain how this book went down to 2/5: after discovering she was pregnant, it was as if they both had personality transplant! She suddenly reverted to being a 10-year-old and he was asking for her to overlook any indiscretions that he may partake of. It was very disconcerting. Add to that I didn't like that she even considered and brought up an abortion. Quite frankly, it was heartbreaking after - with no hero's point of view written - I had created in my mind a man with honor and kindness that had merely not found someone special yet only to discover I was horribly wrong.

After he tells her he'll be unfaithful, without even once demanding that he be faithful to her, she accepts! Unbelievable. Further, he tells her where she'll live (away from him) and how she will not work. Though she does quickly stop acting as a child immediately upon choosing to marry him.

After they're engaged, he mocks her at every moment. Don't look for a beautiful wedding. You'll be greatly disappointed. Somehow, though, there's a miraculous personality transplant again! Our hero is suddenly sweet and gentle again. (Honestly, it's enough to give you whiplash.) If you hope there was a life changing wedding night...don't on that account either. She believes he's gone to be with someone else.

What continues from there is continually more morose than one would expect. After all when tragedy falls, usually kindness and love prevails. Right? Not necessarily so it would seem. Our hero was much to...passive and even dark humored about the state of their marriage after a true tragedy.

This books received 2 rather than 1 because when our hero cane round to the fact that he had to talk he did so spectacularly, though the end of the book was somewhat abrupt. This book would've received 2.5 stars but that's not an option.

All in all (and I'm sure this review is much more than most of you wanted to read of which I apologize for) it felt as if this book was written by someone who had not experienced a great deal of hardship or misery. I hope that that's true. That's not something you want to wish upon someone. That being said revelations of love should happen when they are most necessary, most desperate for... not merely when it becomes most convenient. Convenience is a sign of selfishness. Giving someone love and honesty, completely unvarnished, at a time when they need it most is selflessness and therefore the very definition of love.

Tony Dodgins is one of the world's leading F1 journalists and attends every grand prix, reporting for a wide range of media worldwide. A passionate fan of Senna, he has been Grand Prix reporter for Autosport, F1 Racing and Motorsport News in the UK, and has written for leading motorsport titles in the USA and Japan. He also writes for and edits the prestigious Autocourse Formula 1 annual. At races he is part of BBC TV's coverage, assisting Ben Edwards and David Coulthard in the Formula 1 commentary box.

A NEW book on Senna... and (shocking) a GREAT one!!

Nicely done, Mr. Dodgins, bravo!! I was nervous about getting "another" book on Senna... I have dozens. But I must say, THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT. It's not just all the races, chronologically. It's also a fantastic journey of both a truly all-encompassing overview, and really terrific tidbits of "episodes" occurring during races, or because of races, or as a result of races. And many times these episodes are accentuated with latter-day additions to those events. A really great book... as much fun to read as it is to leaf through. I would think this would be a great book for old-time Senna fans such as myself, and for new fans who want a fantastic overview and true glimpses into who Senna "really" was. Thank you for pursuing this Mr. Dodgins, and to the publisher! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by this Senna fan since 1985. Buy this book - you will not be disappointed, for sure. Also, beautifully printed, and terrific color photo's throughout. Great book!
