Great book, give the book a shot

When I decided to read this book I was skeptical, I am a female and have been married for a long time. We have a very successful marriage and I wanted to know if the book had different ideas. But to be honest he was spot on. I do think he could improve the book with a chapter about communication in the bedroom, I believe this is key to a great relationship, and great sex, telling one another exactly what each other likes and dislikes.
But the chapter about trust and how women think they can check out other men and its OK because they are "trustworthy" , and men can not even glance at a other woman or be smacked because he is aa disloyal DOG. Well it is a double standard, do what the book says check out the opposite sexes together.

About the Author

About the Author
Mireille Levy holds a PhD in mathematics from the Paris University Pierre et Marie Curie. She is the head of the modeling group at the Radio Communications Research Unit of the Appleton Ritherford Laboratory, working on radiowave propagation and scattering. She is a member of the IEE and a senior member of the IEEE. She was awarded the Electronics Letters Premium in 1990.

I would not recommend this for a first course in ODE

I teach out of this book at an engineering institute. The material is appropriate for an undergraduate audience with a strong ODE background and interest in applications but not theory. I would not recommend this for a first course in ODE, for graduate courses, or for a more mathematical/theoretical audience. I gave three stars for a few reasons.

1) The material is poorly organized. From my perspective as a professor, some sections and chapters are out of order. Also, themes and methods in different chapters aren't tied together well. I think anyone teaching out of this text will find themselves jumping around and rewriting parts of it.

2) Even though this is the 6th edition, the main text, the problems, the solutions in the back of the book, and the instruction manual all have errors. My students, my graders, and I have found about a dozen errors so far. Most of them are minor mistakes. But they still cause the students a lot of confusion and frustration when they try to read the text or check their answers.

3) The solution methods emphasized by the book mainly involve plugging things into complicated formulae. This may be fine for an engineering audience that simply wants to memorize formulae to get specific tasks accomplished. But I don't teach my course this way. I emphasize ideas and broad themes, not formulae. If you try to teach a mathematical/theoretical audience, you'll find this book to be a very poor choice.

In summary, I think undergrad engineering students will benefit from this book, but the instructor will need to devote extra time to overcome some of the book's shortcomings such as poor ordering of sections, mistakes in the solutions, and a formula-based approach to the subject.

Best I could hope for

This is the required textbook for the class I am now taking (3/4 of the way done). Every once in a while you get a textbook that is so well written that you don't need the professor. This is one of those books. In fact, our professor just basically reads the book to us. When you have the optimal teaching method there is no reason to improvise. BTW - I don't think less of my professor for following the book so closely. I appreciate that he doesn't try to ruin perfection.

Learning from this book is VERY easy. The concepts are explained very well with worked examples and then there are many problems (with answers in the back) that cement your understanding - if you do the problems.

This is an easy 5 stars. My biggest complaint is that the book's binding is cheap and rigid so it cracks.

This book is a great teacher.

This was a great textbook. It taught me everything during an accelerated summer class I had in college. It is written very well so it is easy to understand. One of the best books I've had to learn from in college.

Pager and telephonic communication became the medium of message-passing, and flyers were key to it all: informing the right people about the right place at the right time. Chelsea Berlin was there from the beginning, attending many of the now legendary events, from Club Shoom to Energy and beyond. Here she documents the whole exciting movement through the flyers that were handed out freely (or sometimes privately) to inform partygoers of the next venue. Flyer design became an artform, and this book contains hundreds of the most significant and rare examples from Chelsea's huge collection. Together with personal reminiscences and quotes from famous, infamous, and not-so-famous attendees, Rave Art paints a vivid picture of what is probably the last significant youth culture movement of modern times.

About the Author
Chelsea Louise Berlin studied art and design and has exhibited her painting, sculpture, furniture, and photography. She is custodian of her "Berlin Collection," which comprises thousands of items of ephemera and collectables from the 1980s onwards. Mark Moore is a DJ and dance music record producer who was at the forefront of the UK club and rave scene from the very beginning and was highly influential in the popularity of House music. He also writes for a number of magazines.

An essential must for anyone who was at the birth of this rave phenomenon,Chelsea has done an excellent job in reliving some of the most amazing memories of the rave scene that capture the youth of the late 80's/ early 90's with the excellent editorial and the wonderful images of the flyers.
